I ran away from Kennypalooza 2004 for a little bit. I love the company, but ultra violent movies just aren't my cup of tea. When we couldn't figure out what to do next, Matty decided we could watch two movies, either Battle Royale a movie about Japanese school children who are chosen by lottery for a TV show where they must kill each other to "win", or The Grudge, a spooky haunted house movie, also Japanese, that will have an American version starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, premiering in a couple of weeks.

After watching a couple of minutes of Battle Royale, I really didn't want to see anymore, and made the excuse of needing to pick up some Claritin. Matty's cat is making me sneeze, so it is valid. (Truth be told, I'm also horny as hell, and a group of good looking bears all huddled up watching a movie was getting me a little worked up.) Thinking that I had an hour or so, I came home to take a shower (stop thinking that, I just hadn't had a shower today, and then I'd run some errands while they watched the movie.

I'm not a scary movie fan. I barely got through Scream a few years back.

Well, apparently the movie was too much for them as well. I got a call that they had stopped watching it and wondered where I was. Now I don't feel quite as wimpy as I thought I was!

I watched Battle Royale several months back. Apparently the graphic novels are a lot more graphic. It was an interesting concept, if not as slickly produced as a Hollywood film.

But blood on the screen really doesn't bother me too much. Did you at least see the part where they watch the informational video with the WAY TOO PERKY Japanese lady? I love that part..

And to think my friends are bothered when I classify Battle Royale as a horror movie. As in, "the Japanese make the best horror movies".

I'm so in your corner there- I don't care for violent gore-splattered movies (hence my dislike for Kill Bill). I barely made it throug the first two Scream movies too.

I don't know how some people can laugh at these movies. I've become suspicious that some how, some people are getting a sick, twisted thrill from it. Last Thanksgiving, while at a friends house, they popped in some "informational" training videos which included one segment called "Shake Hands with Danger"... In it people were stupid things like leaving drills on while sticking their hand in moving parts and then you'd see them a minute later screaming with blood flying all over... I had to leave the room.

Lets go see Garden State together!

That's pretty damn ironic. I was in Barnes & Noble earlier and I found the novel for Battle Roayale. I'd never heard of it, but it looked somewhat interesting. I also found a graphic novel with the same title. I'm not sure if it's related, since it semmed more like hentai to me than anything else.

Good seeing you that night. Though I was totally gung ho on seeing Battle Royale, I had a blast nonetheless!

I don't remember Battle Royale being all that violent except at the beginning. After a while, it played like an edited for TV movie. The only movie that went over the top to point it bugged me was Kill Bill 1. But random suspense bothers me more.
