Wow. I guess I ought to use this every once in a while.

I'm only doing this because I believe in the product. as many of you know, I love Sirius, and I have a radio in my car, and one in the house. Today and tomorrow, Sirius is offering a free trial of it's internet-only service. no radio to buy, just a computer with a sound card.

I know that Sirius is pushing Howard Stern, but really, I hardly ever listen to him. There's 68 commercial free music stations, from Broadway to Bluegrass and some talk political and not, on the internet stream (which also comes with a regular subscription). Yes, the Martha Stewart channel is on there, too. Strangely, the Canadian channels aren't.

Of course OutQ is one of the better reasons to check out Sirius. Right now LJ's own Larry Flick [livejournal.com profile] lfkbear is on "OutQ in the Morning" and in the evening there's Derek and Romaine. On Thursday, LJ's own Alonso Duralde ([livejournal.com profile] moroccomole) will be on the Derek and Romaine show in the 8:00ET hour (5:00PT).

So yes, you have to register, and yes, you might get an email now and again, so that's your choice, but give it a try and see if you like it. Personally, I love having Sirius, expecially on my commute to and from work. (oh, and Alex, Jeb or anyone else that's overseas, the trial is available worldwide)

Sign up and listen at Sirius.com

I'll try to post something of substance soon.

We got XM when we got our new car, and I've totally been digging it. With all the channels, there's always *something* I feel like listening to. My one complaint with XM is that it doesn't have a dedicated queer channel (unless you want to count the dance club music channel, which is the defacto queer channel, including lots of queer events in it's event calendar). If XM and Sirius were to merge (there was some talk about it a year or so ago), I would hope they would keep OutQ.

JOhn.

I'm not so sure that they'd ever merge, I could see XM needing to sell off it's assets if thy don't turn things around at the company (which wouldn't be that hard, really). Siruis has had all the subscriber momentum for the last year.

You're right about the "always something on" aspect of satellite radio. I'd rather have either service than have to listen to regular radio...ugh. I lov the variety, and that it's not the same playlist over and over. Our local Mix station makes me want to scream because it's always Train, Coldplay, and Rob thomas, then a batch of Commercials. How about something new, fresh and untested by a panel of experts?

The thing about OutQ is that it isn't alldance music and pride parades, there's political talk, entertainment talk and yes, music, but Kendall and Indigo Girls are just as likely to get played as would Elton John, Scissor Sisters or the Pet Shop Boys. Sure, there are shows I don't like on the channel, but those i do as well.
