Give Me Five

Moose and Cub

Five years ago today I met a guy at a restaurant known for it's fried food and queso. It was a little meeting at lunch, since we missed meeting each other the week before as I had gone to austin at the last minute, and didn't go to a Rugby game in Houston.

Nothing was said on that day that was to show what was to come, except a little note in my entry that over lunch I kept babbling on and on. While then it was from being nervous, i still find that I'm the one that can babble more about nothing than he can.

Somewhere along the way I thought last year was the five year mark, but a check the other day of my journal showed that I was wrong. I won't say it's our anniversary, it wasn't the day we fell in love, or decided to date or anything. Today is but a date to remember when we first met.

Still, five years. Not too shabby. I, for one am damn glad it happened. And like I still love fried foods and queso - sometimes even together, I still love Chris as well.

Yay for happy anniversaries, even the small ones!

JOhn.

Thanks! With it being around Valentines, there really wouldn't be a separate observance, but it's nice to drop into the journal.

Thanks!

Long time no see - we need to have lunch sometime soon!

Wow... yeah, when I met ya in 2003 (had to check my LJ archive just to be sure), you guys were just starting to date. YAY! :D

[identity profile] eggwards.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, has it really been that long? Amazing. Yeah, everything was in flux back then, trying to do the long distance thing and all. It's much more settled now! :-)

Wow, congratulations on the 5 years!

That was just beautiful. 5 years. That's just great...and in love. It makes me smile.

High Five to both of you.

[identity profile] eggwards.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Right back at you -though you and Mike have been together for a bit longer, right?

This October, it will be 10 years since [livejournal.com profile] redcub introduce me to Mike at the monthly Empire Bears Night at the Bachelor Forum in Rochester, NY. We have not driven ourselves too crazy. ;-)

Five years? Cool! (And all this time I'd never seen a picture of Chris. *slaps self on head*)

And I'm sorry that you had to leave the beautiful scenery at the ranch, but I know you'll be happier in a different kind of "greener pasture" :^)

Chris pops up now and again, but since he hasn't been on LJ for more than a year, there's nothing to link to there.

Yeah, I worked in Houston with the view of a freeway for many years, so it's not really an issue that I don't see the lake and cattle. There actually is a small retention pond at the new workplace, but I don't know if my cube will overlook it, or the parking lot. Hopefully, being happier with the job will make the difference.

These days I'd kill for a view of a parking lot or a pond instead of endless miles of interstate. :-)

I can't even say that I've done anything for five consecutive years (certainly not a job). Congratulations nonetheless, and here's to many more years. ;)

Yay! Congratulations, both on the anniversary and on the new job! We should chat sometime soon. Tomorrow Kyros and I will be together 6 months, and I'll be flying up to Seattle in the morning to see him. Wheeee!

[identity profile] eggwards.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks David! I wish you safe travels. (what is is with Seattle that they have such hot guys?)

I look forward to the chat. We just bought our tickets for ACL. Might you be in attendance as well?

I hope so, but not certain yet. I have many trips to plan...

Hey
Thanks for adding me.
And I'm happy for your anniversary, even if small :)
*hugs from Barcelona*

[identity profile] eggwards.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks Xavi! Chris mentioned you when he came back from the Mexican Riviera cruise a couple of years back. I saw you commenting on Beardoc's journal and thought I should add you! Hopefully we'll make it out to Barcelona and Spain one of these days. it seems like a great place to visit.

[identity profile] gorkabear.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's also a great place to live in, although we locals are pissed at many things going on :)

Nice to have met you!!!

[identity profile] cubziz.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats! Very cool!

Most people have a hard time figuring out which date to put down as their anniversary.

I personally believe the entire purpose of Marriage is simply to provide a date. On THIS date.

But you both are awesome. Congrats again.

[identity profile] eggwards.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's true. Really, the commitment was already made when you were engaged, the marriage is a ceremony. Unfortunately it's the ceremony that the government counts for the benefits.

Really, the anniversary is a tough thing to pin down. I think we decided to really start dating sometime in June or July of 2003, but neither of us really remembers. I just know the meeting date since we were supposed to meet up a week earlier, but it didn't happen as I got an invite to go to Austin for the weekend. Of course Chris was invited to go to Austin, but went to Houston instead thinking he'd meet me there. It's all good though, and it worked out for the best.
