Wandering the Desert for...

So we're now 40 days away from my 40th birthday. Already this year i've been feeling the pull of this big, biblical number. Since we're now so close to the actual event, I'm tagging my next few posts with the above banner. It's also an encouragement to me to actually blog something for the next 40 days. Sometimes it may have something to do with the upcoming birthday, sometimes it won't. Just like anything else in my blog, it's terribly inconsistent.

While I think of myself as old already in many respects, really I've lived through some interesting times, but not necessarily everything. As most of us, I was born after the Big Bang, and will likely die before the Apocalypse. Everything else is just details.

Do to kick off this 40 day countdown to the big day, here's a little list for things I'm younger than vs similar things that I'm older than. Certainly there's a bigger list, but it's just something to get us started here.

On with the show, we only have a few days left now.

Unlike Astroworld, you are still here. :)

Very true. the other day when that girl got her feet lopped off by a thrill ride at another Six Flags park I thought, they have one just like that at Astroworld...

They hadn't torn down the place when I left. I think it would freak me out to see a field there. it was always there in my view.

Happy upcoming!

Very cool! Is that younger than/older than a database tied to wiki? Where might I find my own?

[identity profile] eggwards.livejournal.com 2007-06-26 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
No, i had to remember, then do the date checking myself. I used the year thing in Wikipedia for that, give it a year and it will give you significant happenings and birthdays. that's how I found the strange Tim McGraw - Faith hill thing. We were all born in 1967. Some just have more money/fame than others.

Flattery will get you everywhere.

Thanks!

Very cool list, Michael. Are you sure about the Bicentennial and the Muppets? Michael 1967, Bicentennial 1976? Anyway, happy pre-birthday. 40 isn't that bad. It's practically the new 30!

[identity profile] eggwards.livejournal.com 2007-06-26 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I think I has the headers turned around or something. I'm older than the Bicentennial and the Muppet Show (mid 70's) and younger than Kermit (1950's) and the Canadian Centennial (July 1, 1967, during Expo '67!)

The one that's questionable is Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. The show existed before 1967 in Pittsburgh and Canada, but wasn't nationwide on PBS until 1968.

I know that 40 is getting to be the new 30, because people are allowed to stay younger in their 20's - less responsibility, I guess? I certainly wouldn't say I was an adult in my 20's.

Well, 30 was a stressful thing for me as well, especially since I was still hanging with many of my college freinds who were still in their mid-20's. I guess I've always been hanging with the younger crowd!

40 at least has the cachet of becoming a daddybear. :-)

Thank you Neil! The one thing to look forward to is the possibilities of chage. the growth and learning years are still with me, but now is the time to expand and conquer, right? :-)

Thank You Michael. I've got something that I'm thinking of, i'm just trying to work on logistics right now. I'll let you know.

Otherwise, I'm glad you're taking care of yourself, with the blood sugar and all! Fewer doughnuts for all of us.

I always forget you and I have the same birth date! ROCK!

[identity profile] eggwards.livejournal.com 2007-06-26 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, one year off as I recall. We also share it with Tony Bennett and Martha stweart who are both a good bit older.

It's also the birthday of actor Isaiah Washington, who's been in a bit of trouble this year, and Evangeline Lily, Kate from Lost.
