Take Back The Streets
I was going to write something this morning that for the moment seems awfully superficial. Ever since been alerted to it from other LJers, I've been tuned into CNN International watching coverage about the terrorist attacks in London.
It's all about taking advantage of the world stage, and trying to draw focus to your stupid, stupid hate group. You know, I don't give a crap of who you state your god is, or how you say your serving him, you are wrong. You do a disservice to your deity and to humanity at large. There is no justification for your actions, or those of your fellow brothers who've worked in Bali, Madrid, New York, and even Oklahoma City - sure, you might not think that's related, but those who would plan a mass killing can all be lumped in together in my book. Hate is hate, and trying to make your mark through massive loss of life should only result in people rising up and saying no to your message and your hate.
Its sad that we live in a world where the message of terror hits us so hard and changes our way of travel, building, and life. It causes distrust, paranoia and fear, which is exactly it's intent. It's an attempt by a minority of people to divide and conquer. We must not let that happen. Ever.

London's my old stomping ground from waaaay back. This makes me both absofukkinlutely furious.
It's past time for good ordinary people to get up out of their fear and tell the terrorists to pack it in, because we're not going to let them change our lives. So, how do we start a grassroots movement like that?

I understand the anger now - but it's that anger that some authorities want to harness to justify their own ends.

Still, someone will always feel left out, I suppose. We just have to do a better job of working together, and not trying to respond to these attacks simply with revolving acts of aggression. That's not an appropriate response to every challenge, either.
Thanks for taking time out to respond, Seumus!

Interesting. I'll bet this is exactly what the Radical, Religious, Republican Right thinks about gay people -- and we're not even blowing shit up!

Still, most of us, gays, Right wingers, black panthers, etc. work within the system to try to get our voices heard - there are exceptions, of course.
Then again, there's always those blowing up abortion clinics and stabbing doctors. It's a messed up world.

We can't always run and hide in fear, you know. sometimes knowing our neighbors would help do the trick, instead of just quaking behind closed doors, peeping.
