Chili is an amalgamation of ingredients
I'm cooking dinner at Chris' right now. Tonight's dish is Chili. My sister and Skye (
cristalskye) are coming over too, so this better be good. Still, it's pretty hard to screw up Chili. Yes, it's Texas Chili, hot and no beans, thank you. As it's simmering, I'm watching American Chopper. Mmm, Paulie Jr.
Yesterday's lunch with the folks was the expected disaster I thought it would be. Mom's order for the turducken roll didn't come in, so she got some sliced turkey from Boston Market, with just about everything else. I asked her to tell me what a turducken ROLL was, but she couldn't really explain it. It's not the whole bird, so I'm thinking it's each of the three meats, processed, and rolled up like those Baskin-Robbins ice cream cakes. I can only imagine. It's a giant meat fruit-roll up. Her only real cooking was some Rice-a-Roni. Hooray for the San Francisco Treat!
I asked mom if she could get some crescent rolls, but instead of getting the Pillsbury kind, she got some croissants at the store that we had to warm up. When I asked her about it, she said that the Poppin fresh ones would make too many rolls for the three of us. What eight rolls is too many? I could see dad was a bit disappointed too, but as he does, he stays silent and stoic.
It was the usual gift from dad, cash. A nice gift this year, but it kind of says that he doesn't really try. Of course I got them gift certificates, so I'm not trying too hard, either. I think we've all sort of dropped our family Christmas spirit. Mom actually got me something this year, which surprised me. It was also cash. I guess she felt she needed to do something.
Dad also gave me Laura's gift. Cash again, but mom didn't have a gift for her. I wonder if she sent it already. It would such if I got a gift from mom and Laura didn't.
Then the drive. Nothing big, just a few miles, and then I'm on Chris' doorstep. I gave him his gifts, I don't wrap, so that's that. He got the Prince of Persia game for X-Box (evil Microsoft thing) and a Brother Bear Tickle and Tumble Koda doll. The really should have called it Laughing Bottom Cub Koda. You tickle his tummy and he laughs and kicks his legs, falling on his back with his legs in the air. Here's a picture of him when he isn't ready for a go...

I got a CD and a really nice frame with pics of Laura and I, and Chris, fromSuper Gay Restoration Hardware. It's really nice, especially if you know how many picture frames I have around my house. This one's special.
We just spent a quiet evening together tonight, which was great. The perfect part of Christmas. Today i took Chris to work, where everyone in the store seems to know me. It's fun when your walking around the store and all the people are saying hello, then telling you where Chris is working.
So, now, back to my chili, and to pick up Chris from work.
